Exploring French Soho! 🇫🇷
Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils embarked on a fascinating guided tour of Soho, uncovering the rich history of the French presence in the area since the arrival of 50,000 Huguenots after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.
📍 Highlights of the tour:
➡️ Starting at the French Protestant Church on Soho Square
➡️ A stop at L’Escargot, London’s oldest French restaurant
➡️ Tasting history at Maison Bertaux, where French croissants were first made in the UK in 1871!
➡️ Admiring Jean Cocteau’s stunning mural at Notre Dame de France and discovering the story of ‘Our Lady of Victories’
➡️ Spotting remnants of the Hotel de Boulogne in Chinatown, a hidden sign of early French influence
➡️ Ending outside Mariage Frères Tea House, where pupils learned a surprising fact… the best tea comes from France!
